This policy lists the cookies and similar storage used on TakeawaysNearMe.ie, why, and how you can change your choice. Read it with our Privacy Policy.
1. Summary
- We set one cookie of our own for visitors who sign in, plus a few choices you make that are kept in your browser.
- Google AdSense and its consent message set cookies. Google only uses them for personalised ads if you agree.
- We do not use cookies for our own analytics, our Sponsored ads or our restaurant statistics.
2. The rules we follow
In Ireland, Regulation 5 of the ePrivacy Regulations (S.I. No. 336/2011) says a site may store or read information on your device only with your consent, unless it is strictly necessary for a service you asked for or needed to send a communication. Consent must meet the GDPR standard: freely given, specific, informed and a clear action, never a pre-ticked box or just browsing on. The Data Protection Commission enforces these rules.
3. Our own cookies and storage
| Name | Type | Purpose | How long | Consent? |
|---|---|---|---|---|
__Secure-tnm_session | Cookie (HTTP-only, secure) | Keeps you signed in. Only set when you sign in. | 7 days, renewed while you use the site; removed when you sign out | No: strictly necessary |
__Secure-better-auth.two_factor | Cookie (HTTP-only, secure) | Remembers, for the next step only, that you entered the right password while we wait for the code we emailed you. Only set when you sign in with a password. | 10 minutes, or until you enter the code | No: strictly necessary |
tnm_sidebar | Cookie (account area only) | Remembers whether you collapsed the account menu. | 1 year | No: you asked for it |
theme | Local storage | Remembers Light, Dark or System if you choose one. | Until you clear it | No: you asked for it |
tmie_install_dismissed | Local storage | Remembers that you closed the “install the app” suggestion, so it is not shown again. Only set when you close it. | 30 days | No: you asked for it |
| Service worker cache | Browser cache | Stores the site’s code, images and an offline page so pages load faster and show a message when you are offline. | Up to 30 days per file | No: needed to deliver the page |
If you browse without signing in, our site sets no cookie of its own. Apart from the service worker cache, the storage above is written only after you make that choice. Earlier versions of the site kept a visit count (tmie_visit_count); we no longer read or write it, and clearing this site's data removes it.
4. Google cookies and storage
Ads on some pages come from Google AdSense. Google sets these, not us, and is responsible for its own use of them under the Google cookie policy. Names and durations may change when Google updates its products.
| Name | Set by | Purpose | How long | Consent? |
|---|---|---|---|---|
FCCDCF, FCNEC, google_auto_fc_cmp_setting | Google consent message | Stores your consent choices (IAB TCF string) so you are not asked on every page. | Up to 13 months | No: records your choice |
__gads, __gpi | Google AdSense | Ad delivery, frequency capping and measurement; personalised ads if you agree. | Up to 13 months | Yes |
__eoi | Google AdSense | Ad security and fraud prevention. | Up to 6 months | Yes |
google_adsense_settings | Google AdSense | Local storage used by the ad script for its settings. | Until cleared | Yes |
| Cookies on Google domains (for example doubleclick.net, google.com) | Google and, if you agree, its ad partners | Personalised ads and ad measurement across sites. | Set by Google; see its policy | Yes |
| Google Maps | Our maps load from Google, which receives your IP address and may read or set cookies on its own domains (for example if you are signed in to Google). | Set by Google | Yes: the map loads only if you agreed to Google in the consent message, or when you press “Show map” (for that page only) |
We do not currently run Google Analytics, Google Tag Manager or the Meta (Facebook) pixel. Our site can load them only after you consent through the same message, and we will add them to this list before switching any on.
5. What we count without cookies
Our own counters (restaurant page views and clicks, and views and clicks of our Sponsored ads) send a small message to our server and are added to daily totals. They store nothing on your device and record no IP address, identifier or browser details, so they do not need consent under Regulation 5. See section 3 of our Privacy Policy.
6. Your consent and how to change it
On your first visit from the EEA or the UK, Google's consent message (an IAB TCF certified consent tool) asks for your choice, and you can agree, refuse or choose purposes. Until you agree, Google's ad cookies are not used for personalised ads; Google may then show non-personalised or limited ads.
You can change or withdraw your consent at any time, as easily as you gave it:
Signed-in users also find this at Account → Profile → Privacy. Clearing this site's cookies in your browser also resets your choice and the message will ask again.
7. Browser controls
You can block or delete cookies in your browser. Blocking our sign-in cookie stops you signing in; the rest of the site still works.
- Google Chrome
- Mozilla Firefox
- Safari (Mac) and Safari (iPhone and iPad)
- Microsoft Edge
- Google ad personalisation: My Ad Center
8. Changes
We update this list when we add, remove or change a cookie, and we ask for consent before any new cookie that needs it is used.
