What you can and cannot rely on when you use TakeawaysNearMe.ie, how we use AI, and how ads are chosen. Nothing here limits your rights under Irish or EU consumer law.
1. An independent directory
TakeawaysNearMe.ie lists takeaways across Ireland. We are not connected to the businesses we list, to Google, or to delivery apps such as Just Eat, Deliveroo or Uber Eats, unless a listing is clearly marked as an ad. We do not take orders or payments for food. The information is general guidance, not professional advice.
2. Listing accuracy
Listings come from Google Places, from owners who have claimed them, and from our staff. They can be wrong or out of date: a business may change hours, prices or phone numbers, move or close, and our updates are periodic, not live. Check with the business before you travel or order, especially opening hours and delivery areas.
3. Google data
Business details and ratings come from the Google Places API under the Google Maps Platform Terms. Ratings and review counts are Google's overall figures at our last update and may differ from Google Maps now. We do not copy individual reviews. Maps are provided by Google.
4. AI-generated content
We use AI to write some listing text so that every takeaway has a useful description. We tell you where we do it, in line with the transparency rules of the EU AI Act (Regulation (EU) 2024/1689, Article 50, applying from 2 August 2026). AI text can be wrong: treat it as a summary, not a review or a recommendation.
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| What is AI-written? | Some restaurant summaries, descriptions and FAQs, and some town and county introductions. Page titles and search-result descriptions are built from our listing data, not by AI. We do not use AI images, chatbots or synthetic audio or video. |
| Which system? | Microsoft Azure OpenAI, model gpt-6-luna, in Azure’s Sweden Central region with EU Data Zone processing (the text is generated in the EU). Some older text was written with Anthropic Claude through AWS Bedrock. We record the provider, model and date for every AI-written field. |
| What goes in? | Only the business details we hold: name, address, cuisines, services, opening hours and price band. Phone numbers, web addresses, email and ratings are never sent. The AI may only restate those details: no menus, prices, reviews, opinions or guesses. Older text, which we are replacing, was also given the Google rating. No visitor or account data is used. |
| How is it labelled? | An “AI-generated content.” note appears right after the text, with a link to this section. Text written by the owner or our staff has no label. |
| Who checks it? | Our staff run the AI tool for live listings that pass our venue rules. Every text is checked automatically against the business details before it is published: anything not in those details (a number, time, cuisine, service or claim) means the text is not used. Texts are not reviewed one by one by a person. The tool never replaces text written by an owner or our staff, and we keep earlier versions. Staff and verified owners can edit any of it at any time; edited text is no longer labelled as AI-written. |
| How do I report an error? | Email hello@takeawaysnearme.ie with the page link and what is wrong. Owners can also send a change request from their account. We correct or remove the text. |
No AI system on this site makes decisions about you. Claims, listing approvals and ad bookings are handled by people.
5. Ads and why you see them
We show two kinds of ad. Both are kept apart from the list of takeaways, and neither changes how the list is ordered. Cards labelled “From TakeawaysNearMe” are our own promotions, not paid ads.
| Our Sponsored ads | Google ads | |
|---|---|---|
| How marked | “Sponsored” on the card or above it, and the advertiser’s name on the card | Google’s own ad markings |
| Who it is for | The advertiser named on the card, who pays us for it | Advertisers chosen by Google |
| Why you see it | The page you are on: type of page, county, town and cuisine. Some advertisers book a fixed position; the others are ordered by how closely their targeting matches the page, then rotate hourly in proportion to their booked share. Nothing about you is used. | Decided by Google; personalised only if you agreed in the consent message. Use Google’s “Why this ad?” link on the ad. |
| On restaurant pages | On a claimed or verified restaurant’s page, other takeaways cannot advertise; only that restaurant’s own ads or non-competing brands appear. | As Google decides |
Ad links are marked as sponsored for search engines. Advertisers must follow our ad terms; to report a misleading ad, email hello@takeawaysnearme.ie.
6. Badges and venue rules
- Owner managed: our staff approved an ownership claim for the listing.
- Verified: set by our staff for a listing they have checked further. A paid verification service is planned but not yet offered.
- Top rated: based on Google rating weighted by the number of reviews.
None of these is an endorsement or a guarantee of quality. We do not list pubs, bars, off-licences, nightclubs or other venues mainly selling alcohol.
7. Food safety and allergens
We do not inspect businesses or publish hygiene ratings, and we hold no allergen information. Cuisine labels are not a guide to ingredients. If you have an allergy or dietary need, ask the business: food businesses must give allergen information on request (Regulation (EU) No 1169/2011). For food safety, see the Food Safety Authority of Ireland or your local HSE Environmental Health Service.
8. Links to other sites
Business websites, maps and delivery apps we link to are run by others under their own terms and privacy policies. We are not responsible for them.
9. Relying on the information
Decisions you make using the site, such as visiting or ordering, are yours. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for loss caused by information that turns out to be wrong, such as a wasted journey. We do not exclude liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or anything else the law does not allow us to exclude.
10. Problems with a takeaway
Your contract for food is with the business, so your rights are against it. For help, see the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission or Citizens Information.
11. For business owners
